Frequently asked questions

Signing in

How do I sign in or create an account?

Enter your email on the home page and press Enter. We email you a 6-digit code; type it in and you are signed in. There is no password to remember, and the first time you do this your account is created. If the code does not arrive within a minute, check your spam folder, make sure the address is spelled correctly, then ask for a new code. Still stuck? Email support@resumeruler.com.

Can I sign in without an email code?

Yes. Add a passkey under My account → Profile → Sign-in methods, and from then on choose 'Sign in with a passkey' on the home page: your device's Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or a security key signs you in, with nothing to type. Your email code keeps working too, so a lost device never locks you out. ResumeRuler stores only a public key; the secret never leaves your device.

Getting started

What is ResumeRuler?

ResumeRuler is an AI-powered assistant that helps you win more interviews. You add a job you care about, and ResumeRuler scores it against your real resumes, picks the resume that fits best, checks its ATS fit, shows what the job asks for that your resume is missing, and then tailors your resume and writes a cover letter for that job.

How do I get started?

Three steps in your account: upload your resumes, import your LinkedIn connections, and set your job preferences. Then choose a plan and add your first job by pasting its link or its description. Your job report fills in within a minute or two.

How do I add a job?

Paste the job's link, or copy and paste the job description if the site blocks automated reading (Indeed and ZipRecruiter often do). Either way the job is analyzed the same way. Each successfully analyzed job uses one job workflow from your plan.

Plans & payment

How much does ResumeRuler cost?

You pay per job, with one-time plans and no subscription. Starter adds 5 job workflows for $3.99. Plus adds 12 job workflows for $6.99. Pro adds 25 job workflows for $11.99. Every plan includes the same features: the Job Total Score, your Candidate Profile, Connection and Preferences scores, the best-fitting resume, up to 20 prompts on requirements you are missing, the resume boost with ATS score, your tailored resume and a tailored cover letter. You can store up to 5 resumes.

What is a job workflow?

One job workflow is one successfully analyzed job. The resume boost and the cover letter for that job are included, whether you use them or not.

Can I share job workflows with someone?

Yes. In My account, open Share, enter their email and how many of your available job workflows to give. They leave your balance right away. The person has 30 days to claim them by signing in with that email, and once claimed they never expire. Unclaimed shares return to you automatically. Shared job workflows have no cash value, count as used for refunds, and never earn a referral reward.

When is a job workflow used, and when is it not?

A job workflow is used only when a new, unique job reaches a successfully scored state and the result is published to you. It is not used when the link cannot be read and no analysis is produced, when our AI provider fails before scoring completes, when the job is detected as a duplicate, when you re-score a job you already analyzed, or when you revisit, download, edit or dismiss a result. It is still used when the score turns out low, when you lose interest in the job, when you dismiss or delete the analyzed job, or when you never use the included boost or cover letter.

Do my job workflows expire?

No. It is one payment, and the job workflows you buy stay on your balance until you use them. You can see your balance in My account → Plans, and you can add more at any time. Plans stack: buying another plan adds to what you already have.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Within 14 days of a purchase you can request a refund of the job workflows you have not used from it. We refund them at the price you paid per workflow: if you bought Starter (5 job workflows for $3.99) and used 2, the refund is for the 3 unused, $2.39. Job workflows you have already used are not refundable, because the analysis has been delivered. If a job could not be analyzed, that job workflow goes back to your balance automatically and does not count as used. Bonus and promotional job workflows have no cash value. To request a refund, email support@resumeruler.com from your account's email address.

Is there a subscription or a free plan?

No. There is nothing recurring to cancel and no monthly fee. You buy a plan when you need more job workflows. There is no free plan: a plan is required to analyze a job.

How can I pay?

By card through Stripe, or with PayPal. Payment happens on their secure checkout pages, and ResumeRuler never sees or stores your card details. Prices are in US dollars.

I paid but my balance didn't change. What do I do?

Your balance normally updates within seconds of the payment. If it hasn't after a few minutes, email support@resumeruler.com with the email address on your account and we'll sort it out within 1-2 days.

Scoring & matching

How does the fit score work?

Each job gets a Total score built from three things: how well your resumes fit the role, how closely it matches your ranked preferences (industries, location and work mode, seniority, pay, and more — a remote job counts as matching any location), and whether you know someone at the company, weighted by their seniority. Jobs are ranked highest-first. As a rule of thumb, below 60 the job is probably not a good fit, and above 90 you should apply. The ATS fit is shown alongside the score, not added to it: it estimates how well your best-fitting resume's wording passes applicant-tracking filters.

What is ATS, and why does it matter?

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System, the software companies use to rank applicants. If your resume's ATS fit for a job is low, a person may never read it. When ResumeRuler boosts your resume for a job, it also raises its ATS fit for that job.

Can I control how jobs are scored?

Yes — you set your job preferences (target industries, locations, work mode, seniority, and more), and the scoring reflects those priorities.

What is the best-fit resume?

If you upload multiple resume versions, ResumeRuler picks the one that best matches each job and tells you which to use.

What does the resume boost do?

ResumeRuler compares your full profile with what the job asks for, prompts you about the gaps, and then tailors your resume for that job using only skills you genuinely have. You see the fit and ATS scores before and after, with every change tracked. If the fit is poor to begin with, the boost will not inflate it: look at other jobs instead.

Can I reuse a boosted resume for other jobs?

Better not. Every job is different, so a resume boosted for one job may not be the best fit for another. Boost each job on its own.

What happens when I add or remove resumes?

Your profile is rebuilt, and the jobs you analyzed in the last 24 hours are re-scored automatically so their scores, best-fitting resume, and ATS fit reflect the resumes you have now. Older jobs keep their scores and show 'Scored with your resumes as of' a date, with a one-click option to re-score them. Re-scoring a job you already analyzed never uses a job workflow.

Does ResumeRuler apply to jobs for me?

No — you stay in control. We score and rank your opportunities, tell you which resume to use, and prepare your tailored resume and cover letter; you decide where to apply.

Resumes & connections

What file formats can I upload for resumes?

Word (.docx), PDF, and plain text (.txt) — up to 5 resumes, each targeting a different type of role. If you plan to use the resume boost, upload .docx: it is the only format we can edit in place.

How do you use my LinkedIn connections?

Upload your LinkedIn data-export ZIP for the richest signals, or a Connections CSV. We use it to flag when you already know someone at a hiring company and how senior they are — never your LinkedIn password, and never a login on your behalf.

Privacy & security

Is my data private?

Yes. Your resumes, connections, and jobs are tied to your account and visible only to you — every user's data is fully isolated. We use your information solely to score your matches; we don't sell it or share it with employers.

Do you scrape LinkedIn or other sites?

No. We read only the public job posting behind a link you give us, or the description you paste. We never log into any site on your behalf.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Remove your resumes and connections anytime from your account. To delete your account and everything tied to it, email support@resumeruler.com and we take care of it within a few days.
